Laser Melting Electrostatic Spinning Method
In recent years, nanofibers have attracted attention. Nanofiber is a fiber with the diameter of 1 μm or less. Nanofibers has characteristics such as nanosize effect, supramolecular array effect, super specific surface area effect, hierarchical structure effect, and so on. This feature is used for filters, separators, medical materials and so on. I am studying to efficiently produce nanofibers.
An electrostatic spinning method is an easy way to make nanofibers. Electrostatic spinning methods include solvent type electrostatic spinning method and melt type electrostatic spinning method. Solvent type electrostatic spinning method dissolve plastics by using solvent and make fibers. Melting type electrostatic spinning method melt plastics by heat and make fibers. However, there are problems such as bad influence on the environment by using solvent and nozzle clogging and so on. In order to solve these problems, laser melting type electrostatic spinning method was developed. Laser melting type electrostatic spinning method melt plastics by use laser and make fibers. As an advantage of the laser melting type electrostatic spinning method, it is good for the environment, the nozzle is not clogged, and so on.
In my research, I'm making nanofibers using a laser melting type electrostatic spinning method. I use cyclo olefin copolymer (COC) and poly carbonate (PC) which are amorphous polymers. COC is a new material. COC has characteristics such as heat resistance, water resistance, dimensional stability and so on. Therefore, it is expected to be used for medical supplies, parts of camera, etc. PC is a material that has been used for a long time. The PC has one of the highest impact resistance among plastic materials. Therefore, it is used for disaster prevention, stealing, protection, etc. I think that COC can be used for wound dressing by making it into nanofibers. Also, the nature and structural formula of PC and COC are similar. Therefore, I compare the characteristics of PC fiber and COC fiber. For now, I can not make COC and PC nanofibers. It is difficult to make COC and PC nanofibers. I want to make COC and PC nanofiber one day. I am now studying hard to make nanofibers in my laboratory.
